Mike Hanna' s Website

About me
I am setting up this website primarily to establish exchanges and collaborations with other people working in artistic, intellectual, and cultural production. I do not currently have a lot of time to build a complete and cool website. Perhaps in a few months it will be more than a half-empty "crashpad". My email account is a shared account which I only infrequently access. Please do not send anything substantial without sending an initial email to establish contact. Otherwise someone else may well receive and lose the email you send me. Perhaps in a few months this state of things will be improved, when I have more time.
What I'm interested in:
  • Writing
I currently am involved with a small avant-garde-ish press, called Brownout Laboratories. If you would like to receive a catalog, you may email me or write to: Brownout Laboratories; RD 2 Box 5; Little Falls, NY 13365; USA If you are producing something interesting in the artistic, intellectual, or cultural domains, and you would like to write something in relation to that, please make contact with us at Brownout Laboratories.
  • Survivors of Violence
For the past several years I have focused on working with survivors of violence. Primarily I work with the actual survivors themselves for social and clinical reempowerment. I have focused particularly on working with survivors of torture and domestic violence, but I have worked with survivors of many other types of violence: rape, child abuse, incest, dating violence, gay bashing, war refugees, etc. I have worked in clinics and in the field in America, France, Croatia, Guatemala, and El Salvador, and I will soon be starting work in Germany.
  • Miscellaneous
Index: foreign languages, photography, vegetarianism, fiction writing, homebrewing, theater, environmentalism, etc., invitation. For people who do not read and write English well: Je parle francais. Ich kann Deutsch. Govorim hravatski i bosanski jezici. Hablo espanol. I have been briefly involved in many other domains of cultural production and I would enjoy expanding on this work (or work in other fields) with people similarly involved. I have done a couple of photo series: "NYC Blackout" and "Portes de la Goutte d'Or", both of which I hope to post on this website one of these days. I am a semi-expert at vegetarianism (cooking and theory). Sometime in 1998 I hope to begin a sort of speaking tour to groups, coffeehouses etc. It's an idea that's been in the works for awhile, but I just haven't had time to carry it out. I have recently started to do some fiction writing, which was well received by some of my friends who are more serious about fiction. I might try to post that on this website, if I decide to not take it more seriously. I have done some homebrewing. My interest outstrips my acquired skill in this domain. Most recently I produced a decent lilac lambic. I used to do a lot of college theater. I started by acting (drama and comedy), but gradually shifted more towards production. I dabbled in short radio theater and puppet theater toward the end of my period of continual involvement. The main reason I drifted away from theater was probably that a dwindling commitment on my part led to an increasing difficulty to access theater rescources, particularly since I was not socializing as much with people who were more deeply involved in theater. Perhaps there is someone out there who would help me link back in a little without having to make it the center of my life? Occassionally I have implemented small green projects. There is lots of other little stuff that i hope to have the time to post here some day. Drop me a line if you have ideas for collaborations.
